I had the recent opportunity to read your editorial of 2/24 (Go ahead, Magpul. Move. Wyoming seems nice.) and would like to take the time to educate you regarding your description of firearms, their applications, and the people who own them. Please allow me to educate you:
At this point in your article, I have to ask, do you always use humor to cover up your ignorance? Seriously, I can’t wade through the Todd Helton jokes to find out what your point is- or isn’t, or even if there is a point?
Naturally, you stand on the graves of these victims and invoke Aurora and Columbine to advance your fear-based worldview. May I remind you Columbine occurred during a nationwide magazine capacity ban. Eric Harris used a 10 round magazine (e.g. restricted capacity) and both him and Klebold used shotguns that were in excess of 40 years old to perform the majority of their killing spree. Also, your so-called assault weapons account for less than 1/3 of total spree killings (142) in the last 31 years. Furthermore, you’re more likely to be beaten to death by a club or bat than a rifle- not just an assault rifle, but a rifle in general. You can refer to the FBI Uniform Crime Stats for reference to these numbers.
At this point in your article, I can’t help but laugh. You make it seem like a gun owner is an angry, toothless redneck incapable of complex thought. While that may seem appetizing to those with your ignorant and uneducated perspective, I would like to point out I graduated from Stanford with a degree in Geological and Environmental Sciences. Why do you see fit to discriminate and have such incredible prejudice towards me because I own guns?
Beside the point, have the cops been called to that pizza parlor for threatening behavior, brandishing, or disorderly conduct? Have there been shootings and robberies in that store because of all of the evil guns? I would venture to say no, because it is not the action of the weapon that commits the crime, but the individual pressing the trigger. If you wish to hold your standards the same, why do you blame Todd Helton for his drinking problem when you should blame the car or the alcohol he consumed. It would fall right in line with your pro-victim mentality.
We do agree on one thing though. Joe Biden is not the brightest bulb on the Christmas tree. After all, he just advocated for the primary weapon used at Columbine as the primary weapon for home defense.
How’s that for moral and rational consistency?
I know I’ve been rough on you in critiquing your editorial but I hope you find this an education to your lack of knowledge and irrational fear of firearms.
If not, don’t let the door hit you in the a$$
Kind Regards,
Tom Stilson
