Guns Don’t Kill People, Pencils Do.
I know that sounds stupid, but I am using the same “logic” here that Liberals use. Guns, of whatever type, are about as responsible for the tragic school shooting inConnecticutas pencils are for mis-spelled words. The most appropriate comment on this situation came from the Governor of Connecticut, when he said, “Evil visited”.
Yes, evil did visit that school. Evil took the lives of several innocent children and some of the dedicated adults responsible for their care, education and well-being. Anyone who believes evil people feel remorse for their actions is sadly mistaken. Evil is self-centered and self-serving. I do not know what this kid shooter’s major mal-function was, nor do I care. All I know is that he chose to serve evil rather than good. Therefore, he (and those like him), is the enemy of all that is good (and should be dealt with accordingly).
The main problem here is not the gun/guns used to commit a crime; it is with the individual and his willingness to commit that crime. But, we have the secondary problem (which is almost as bad), that besides this success of evil over good inConnecticut, you have many agenda driven Liberals willing to prostitute this tragedy for their own anti-gun agenda. I have a problem with this.
To start, this knee-jerk, leg-wetting strategy that an inanimate object can somehow come to life and kill on it’s own is basically typical Leftist dogma: Distract and focus on everything BUT the problem. The problem is not the gun held in the hands of an evil person, the problem is the evil person that will take a gun/an explosive device/a vehicle/an airplane, and kill good and innocent people. The left argues that good, honest people should dis-arm and become sheep awaiting destruction by evil. While they realize this can and will happen, what they are really after is control of our society by the left.
Our Founders clearly understood that a free society would also have to be an armed society. This was the reason for the 2nd Amendment. It was not just some privilege; the “right to keep and bare arms” was considered a responsibility. They needed to defend this new land and nation they had won. Our Founders understood that evil existed in the hearts of man and governments. Therefore, they made provisions, for the good of the land, to defend them selves from that which is evil (both foreign and domestic).
It is no different today. The best way to defend and protect that which is good, is for good people to arm themselves with every available tool to defend themselves against evil. Years ago, it was with swords. At the time of this nation’s founding, it was a Brown Bess musket or a Pennsylvania rifle. The above mentioned were the “assault weapons” of the day back then.
Today, we have the AR style rifle as the most advanced option in shoulder armed weaponry. The left would have you believe that, by its nature, the AR is “evil”. Lay an AR style rifle; or a lever action rifle; a bolt-action rifle; a single shot rifle; a pistol; a shotgun, etc. on the ground – none of those weapons are capable of doing harm to anyone. Similarly, these same tools can and should be used as the best protection against an enemy intent on destruction.
A respected friend of mine was on a local radio program this morning, discussing this same topic. His focus was directed more towards the parenting and responsibility aspect. He is right in that in ‘our day’ there were actual parents raising us children. They taught us that along with all the rights we enjoy, comes a responsibility to use them correctly. Furthermore, the children of those parents were expected to be a reflection of the parent’s values in and towards the community in which we lived. We grew up realizing we had a responsibility not just to our parents, but also to our community. Disagree with the wisdom of that line of thought if you wish, but it produced a well-mannered and orderly society that worked out far better than what I see offered today.
Many of you probably caught our President on the TV after this latest round of evil. You probably noticed how teary eyed he got. My wife posed this question: She wondered if this person on the TV, so obviously shaken by the tragedy in Connecticut, shed those same tears for children who lost their lives due to abortion. My wife has a point. The loss of the innocent life of a child is terrible in whatever situation it occurs. However,…
Ask yourself, why is it that these folks that raise a ruckus over the death of a child by gunfire do not bat an eye when the cause of death is abortion? A child’s life is a child’s life. Whether it is a child in the first grade or unborn child in the womb, death is death. If this society wants to pretend to love children and mourn their loss, it should be consistent. Otherwise, we have become a society of self-serving, agenda driven, morally vacant hypocrites like the Left.
